I absolutely love cutting both coarse and thick, and, yes, fine hair with a Japanese straight edge razor. No guards. as you get a much softer line using the quality of a Japanese blade. I am mesmerized by the power of a fresh blade that cuts like butter.

But, I also use a shear to cut blunt, do point cutting and notch cutting. Depending on hair texture within one head of hair, I may use both my razor and shear...sometimes at the same time.

I was training at the Bumble and bumble University in New York City and toured the star of the show “What Not to Wear” , Nick Arrojo's salon, Arrojo. I watched him cut a one length long haircut, with the girl standing. Her cut was $500.00! I know why! His overhead on the corner in Manhattan is tremendous and it costs more if you have to stand. In Portland he might get $100 for the same cut.

I can challenge myself to create very custom short, medium and long haircuts using cutting geometry techniques captured at Vidal Sassoon Academies throughout the country and Canada. Having mentors that shared additional tricks, or shall we call them skills , I love to combine creative and unique patterns

with geometric hair cutting  shapes.  I have been immersed in this industry as an owner, apprenticeship program leader and educator and have mentored numerous beauty school graduates to a gratifying beauty career while maintaining a full time client base.

Call Now to Book!

It has always been my goal to raise the bar in this industry as I see it as not recognized as it should be. The few of us that dedicate our lives to a profession are true artisans.

Myself and staff dedicate numerous hours and personal time to continued education, practice and enhancing our communication and listening skills to ensure that we honor the value of clients that choose our salon for their services.

My most recent continuing education includes a two day hands on creative cutting class, Sept. 11 and 12,  5 day hands on cutting class early 2016 and Certified Sassoon Educator, 2013, three day hands-on cutting course with Sally Rogerson (former creative director at Sassoon Academy, Santa Monica and  Goldwell color workshops in  September and November 2015.  I only attend serious paid courses. I do not go to “hair shows”. They are “show and tell” and a place to shop and drink.

Being in the industry right out of high school, I have seen and performed styles, cuts and colors change, improve, disappear, or come full circle. My personal goal with each guest is to dig deep into a personality and create the color and cut that they have been wanting to express, but just did not know!

I can be very quiet while executing a haircut. But once I begin blow drying I would join you in conversation about our families, your gardening, (as I am really into organic gardening), probably show you pictures of German Shepherds, or my garden. But, be prepared, as I may catch you off guard and want to take before and after pictures of your hair. So, you might always want to bring your make-up.

You know, each time a client visits, I respect their time and deeply appreciate the money spent with me for services and products.

My belief in products changed when I was introduced to Bumble and Bumble and Kerastase. Kerastase Paris products and in salon treatments transformed my clients hair dramatically. With treatments and prescribed at home care, I know they have the healthiest hair possible.  I make no qualms about appreciating and respecting clients purchasing products from In Color Salon as I myself believe in supporting

local small businesses as their business is what keeps our doors open.

For you reading this, you may be looking for a new stylist.  It is sort of like going on a blind or internet date. Let's call it Hairmatch.com or Hairdate.com. I did not fill out a questionnaire, you did not pay a sign up fee, but, hopefully you can figure out what kind of hair designer and person I am and schedule a date with me! I do have a pretty full schedule, but am accepting new clients.  I look forward to meeting you!
